The fire, which broke out at 1:51 pm on July 27 in Rochoso (Guarda), was brought under control at 1 am, a source from the Sub-regional Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela told Lusa.
Around 3:15 am, 606 personnel assisted by 188 vehicles were on the ground, according to the website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority.
In statements to journalists on the ground on the night of July 28, Commander João Rodrigues, from the Sub-regional Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela, indicated that the area affected by the fire was 4,000 hectares and the perimeter was 40 kilometres.
A source from the GNR told Lusa at 12:10 am that the A25 and EN16 highways had already been reopened after being closed due to the fire.
