If António José Seguro does not intervene in what Chega considers a degradation of political institutions, the far-right party will present a motion of censure that, if approved by a majority in Parliament, could dissolve the Government and lead to new elections in Portugal.

Correio da Manhã (CM) revealed the information, citing party sources. In general, Chega demonstrates discontent with the involvement of Luís Neves, Minister of Internal Administration, in controversies with the Judiciary Police, a police body he directed before becoming a Minister. In this sense, Chega asks the President of the Republic to intervene.

If António José Seguro does not take action, Chega will present a motion of censure against the Government, which should happen on 1 September.

The party considers the motion a way to show it opposes the Government and to express its indignation over the current political situation.

Controversies with Luís Neves

The controversies surrounding the Minister of Internal Administration have been gradually increasing and began on 10 July, when it was reported that Luís Neves had hired a company to renovate his house, a company that had also been responsible for renovations at the Judiciary Police. Luís Neves, before becoming Minister, was the national director of this police force.

The Minister allegedly said the renovations concerned a tank; however, the company built a swimming pool. In Portugal, the tax system charges lower rates for those who have tanks at home instead of swimming pools.

Since that date, the Minister has been trying to prove that the renovations were done legally, while also intending to prove that the renovations done by the same company at the Judiciary Police did not receive any preferential treatment from the current Minister.
