“The forecast will be close to €300,000,” said Tiago Carrão, mayor of that municipality in the Santarém district, at the executive meeting held this afternoon.
According to the mayor, Tomar registered around 171,000 overnight stays in 2025, with the municipality estimating that approximately 20,000 may be covered by the different exemptions provided for in the regulation.
“That’s two euros per night, times about 150,000,” explained Tiago Carrão, adding that the revenue will have to be applied to matters related to tourism.
Among the destinations indicated by the mayor for the application of the expected revenue are the maintenance and enhancement of public spaces, the promotion of tourism in the municipality, and support for cultural activity.
“We know that tourism also obviously causes greater wear and tear on our territory, on our public space,” he said.
The regulation provides for a charge of two euros per person per night, throughout the year, up to a maximum of five consecutive nights, while still maintaining a set of exemptions, including one for pilgrims.
Tiago Carrão said that the final version of the regulation raises the minimum age for the application of the fee from 12 to 13 years, a change resulting from contributions received during the public consultation.
The mayor said that that period was “rich” in contributions, and some of the proposals presented were accepted by the municipality.
“The minimum age has risen from 12 to 13 years, corresponding to a set of proposals that pointed to that age,” he exemplified.
Other suggestions were not accepted, including proposals to differentiate exemptions according to the professional class of the guests, which the mayor said were not considered relevant.

Portugal is Broke, it's as simple as that. 300.000Euros is just the price of an apartment: peanuts at the level of a Country like Portugal . Means : Portugal's Totally Broke. Besides, tourism in the Algarve dropped by 50% (one of the country's main spots) . So the real figure will be less than 300.000.
Globalist puppet government creates Taxes while welcoming folks from India or financing the genocidal Ukrainian war (no more Ukrainian men to fight), it's open bar ...
Remember the excellent 1979 moovie "Apocalypse Now" starring Marlon Brando as the Con. KURZ. Well, right now we're in Apocalypse 2, in the " real " one this time. All the EU puppet governments are getting close to their "game over". Just look at the recent (days ago) AfD score in the "Sachsen Anhalt" region poll , a landslide ...soon " Dexit " ! And with Germany pulling out of the EU mad house, all the rest will follow.
I challenge this "Portugal "News" " to publish my comment and Not Censor it. Should it censor, Future (spiritual) won't forget. Everything we do gets recorded ... Cheers my Friends !

How to stop tourists? Extra tax per night leads to less tourists leads to less trade for local businesses leads to less business/ income tax.
Cost of living is climbing, businesses are failing but taxing tourists is the answer NOT.
