IPMA is forecasting maximum temperatures of 38°C in Évora and Santarém this Monday, while Beja and Castelo Branco should reach 37°C. Temperatures of 35°C are expected in Lisbon and Vila Real, with 34°C forecast for Braga, Bragança, Coimbra and Viseu.

The weather will be milder along parts of the coast. Porto is expected to reach 29°C, Aveiro 28°C and Sines 28°C.

In the Algarve, temperatures should reach 31°C in Faro and 30°C in Sagres, with clear skies and no rain expected.

The biggest change arrives on 15 September, when maximum temperatures will drop considerably in western and central areas.

Leiria is forecast to fall from 33°C on Monday to 24°C on 15 September, while Coimbra will drop from 34°C to 26°C. In Santarém, the maximum should fall from 38°C to 30°C.

Lisbon will also feel the difference, with temperatures dropping from 35°C to 29°C. Porto and Aveiro are both expected to reach just 24°C and 23°C, respectively.

However, the change will not be as noticeable everywhere. Hot weather will continue in some inland areas, with 37°C forecast for both Évora and Castelo Branco on Tuesday and 35°C in Beja.

The Algarve will also remain warm and dry. Faro could reach 34°C on 15 September, while Sagres is forecast to reach 28°C.

A further drop is expected in several places on 16 September. Lisbon should reach 26°C, while Porto is forecast to rise slightly to 27°C. Évora and Castelo Branco will still be warm at 33°C, with Beja reaching 31°C.

Faro should record a maximum of 31°C on 16 September. Sagres, however, is expected to be considerably cooler, with temperatures falling to around 22°C.

Minimum temperatures will also begin to fall, particularly in northern and inland Portugal. Bragança could drop to 13°C on 16 September, while Guarda is expected to fall to 14°C.

The wind will generally come from the north or northwest on 15 and 16 September. IPMA’s city forecasts show no rain expected across mainland Portugal during this period, although cloud cover will increase in several areas.
