The difference in the weather will be particularly noticeable as the weekend approaches.

As reported by IPMA, Madeira will see some rain over the next few days, particularly in the north of the island and in higher areas. The south could also see a few showers, but these should be less frequent.

Temperatures will become milder following the recent heat, with Funchal expected to see maximum temperatures of around 25°C.

The Azores will also have more unsettled weather, with periods of rain affecting different islands through the weekend.

Rainfall is not expected to be particularly heavy or persistent, but showers could come and go, especially in the Western and Central groups.

Temperatures across the Azores will remain relatively mild, generally reaching the mid-20s during the day.

Mainland Portugal, meanwhile, will see a very different picture.

Little or no significant rain is expected through the weekend, with mostly clear skies and temperatures rising again in many areas.

IPMA's longer-range forecast also points to a drier-than-normal start to next week across mainland Portugal, particularly in the North and Centre.

The situation could begin to change later, however. For the week starting in early October, IPMA currently forecasts above-average rainfall in the Algarve, although longer-range forecasts can still change.
