The area is filled with restaurants and cafés, many with outdoor terraces where you can sit and simply watch everything happening around you.

Boats regularly pass along the river, including the traditional rabelo boats that have long been associated with the transport of Port wine.

One of the main sights is, of course, the Dom Luís I Bridge, connecting Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia on the opposite side of the river.

The impressive iron bridge was inaugurated in 1886 and has two levels, both of which can be crossed on foot.

Crossing over to Gaia also gives you another perspective of Ribeira and Porto’s colourful riverfront. From here, you can take the Gaia cable car, which connects the riverside with Jardim do Morro and the upper level of the Dom Luís I Bridge, offering views over the Douro and Porto along the way.
