This part of Porto is best explored on foot, with narrow streets, colourful buildings, small shops, cafés and restaurants around almost every corner. Some of the streets leading towards the river are quite steep, but there is always something to see along the way.

Porto’s Historic Centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 and is the oldest part of the city, with traces of its medieval origins still visible today.

One of the popular routes towards Ribeira takes you through streets such as Rua das Flores and Mouzinho da Silveira. Rua das Flores dates back to the early 16th century and remains one of the most visited streets in Porto’s historic centre.

As you continue downhill, the streets eventually open up towards the Douro and Ribeira, where the atmosphere changes again with busy terraces, boats on the river and views across to Vila Nova de Gaia.
