“We discussed with the [Portuguese] President how Portugal can support our energy system and help protect lives in Ukraine. We also talked about our opportunities for joint weapons production. We sincerely hope there will be further steps towards this support,” Zelensky said in a post on social media platform X.
I met with President of Portugal António José Seguro in Madrid. I thanked him for his condolences over Russia’s strike on an ordinary school in Komyshuvakha, where people were receiving humanitarian aid. The search and rescue operation there is now in its fourth day. As of now, 43 people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Dozens more people may still be trapped under the rubble. One of the people reported missing was found alive today. Every day, Russia attacks our cities and communities with drones and missiles. Our energy sector has suffered a lot of damage, and restoring everything is very difficult. We discussed with the President how Portugal can support our energy system and help protect lives in Ukraine. We also talked about our opportunities for joint weapons production. We very much hope there will be further steps in support.

The Portuguese Presidency also confirmed the meeting between Seguro and Zelensky in Madrid, on the sidelines of the 30th Ibero-American Summit, which concludes today in the Spanish capital.
“The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, met with the President of Ukraine at his request,” the Portuguese Presidency said.
According to the same statement, during the meeting, which was not attended by journalists, “Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Portugal for its consistent support for Ukraine since the beginning of the war and requested that this support continue, both politically and militarily, as well as financially”.
“The President of the Republic assured his counterpart of Portugal's continued support and expressed his expectation that the peace talks, which are due to resume shortly, could lead to an end to the war [with Russia], based on a fair solution that guarantees lasting peace and is in line with international law, while respecting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Presidency added in the same statement.
Sources from the Portuguese Presidency added that Seguro and Zelensky “discussed defence solutions and drone production”.
In addition to the President of the Republic, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel also attended the meeting, Portuguese official sources said.
According to information released by the presidencies of both countries, Zelensky thanked Seguro for the message of condolence sent by the Portuguese President following this week's attack on a humanitarian facility in the Komyshuvakha region.
“Russia attacks our cities and communities every day with drones and missiles. Our energy sector has suffered extensive damage, and it is very difficult to restore everything,” Zelensky wrote on X, referring to the attack in Komyshuvakha and the issues he discussed with António José Seguro.
