In a statement published on its social media channels, AAA said people are being contacted by telephone to schedule a “technical visit”, supposedly to carry out “free tap water tests”.
Águas do Alto Alentejo explained that it only conducts water tests inside customers' homes “following a formal complaint” submitted by the customer themselves.
“These visits are not carried out by AAA,” the company warned in the same statement.
“Water quality monitoring is conducted within the public network by technicians carrying company identification cards and uniforms,” it added.
The intermunicipal company also advises customers who receive a telephone call or a visit not to allow these individuals into their homes, recommending that they verify such activities directly with AAA.
Customers who are contacted should immediately alert the GNR, it stressed.
The intermunicipal company AAA operates the water distribution network in 10 municipalities in the Portalegre district, namely Alter do Chão, Arronches, Castelo de Vide, Crato, Fronteira, Gavião, Marvão, Nisa, Ponte de Sor and Sousel.
