This is one of the measures to support and mitigate the impact of rural fires approved by the Government on August 21st.

"This waiver applies to tax obligations whose deadline expired between July 26th and September 1st, including the payment of Municipal Property Tax (IMI), which would have been due in August, provided these obligations are met by September 12th," the Ministry of Finance stated in a statement.

The Ministry details that this measure covers taxpayers residing or domiciled in the areas affected by the fires, as defined by Council of Ministers Resolution No. 126-A/2025, or whose certified accountants have their headquarters or domicile in these areas.

Mainland Portugal has been affected by multiple large rural fires since July, especially in the North and Central regions.

The fires have caused four deaths, including a firefighter, and several injuries, and have completely or partially destroyed first and second homes, as well as farms, livestock, and forestry.

According to provisional official data, approximately 252,000 hectares have burned in the country as of August 29.
