According to a source from the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), the 38 migrants submitted requests for international protection, and authorities deemed 34 of the requests, made by adults and minors accompanied by their parents, unfounded.
Four requests from unaccompanied minors remain to be considered, and AIMA has already requested the Public Prosecutor's Office to appoint a legal representative.
The applicants have already been notified of the decisions, and the deadline to file an appeal is currently underway (ten days).
On August 9, the judge on duty at the Silves Court ordered the forced removal and transfer of the migrants to temporary accommodation centres (Porto and Faro). The legal time limit for forced removal, if the migrants did not express an intention to return voluntarily, is 60 days.
To date, "none [of the migrants] have expressed a desire to return to their country of origin," explained a PSP source. In the case of voluntary return, the time limit can be up to 20 days.
According to the PSP, "only four of the 38 citizens had or subsequently presented identification documents."
The group of 38 people—comprising 25 men, six women, and seven minors—arrived at Boca do Rio beach, in the parish of Burgau, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in a wooden boat at 8:05 p.m. on August 8.
Until they were transferred to temporary accommodation centres and similar facilities, the migrants, some of whom were hospitalised, were housed in a sports hall in Sagres provided by the Civil Protection Service of the Vila do Bispo City Council.
According to information provided at the time by the PSP, 14 people were then placed in the Porto Temporary Accommodation Center (Santo António Housing Unit), 15 in the Temporary Accommodation Center (EECIT) in Faro, and nine in the Porto EECIT.

Illegal immigrants should not be allowed to stay. As a foreigner in Portugal, I came here legally and observe all the rules on migration and residency here. The law applies to all, and no exceptions should be made. So it is good that the Portuguese authorities have ruled against 34 of them.
