A-Levels are a two-year course for students aged 16 to 19 — broadly the equivalent of the final years of Portuguese secondary school, but with a different philosophy. Instead of covering many subjects at once, students specialise deeply in a few, developing the independent, analytical thinking that leading universities expect. The qualification is recognised internationally, opening routes to higher education in Portugal, the UK, the US and across Europe.
At EITV, that specialisation is organised into four pathways, each designed around a different set of ambitions:
- Business — Management, Economics, Mathematics and Psychology, for future entrepreneurs and leaders.
- Technological — Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology, for the engineers and innovators of tomorrow.
- Artistic — Art and Design, English, Mathematics and Psychology, for creative minds.
- Scientific — Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, for those heading into medicine, research and the sciences.
Every pathway shares one compulsory subject: Global Perspectives and Research. More than an academic requirement, it teaches students to research, think critically, collaborate and communicate across cultures — and it is essential to achieving the Cambridge AICE Diploma (Advanced International Certificate of Education), a qualification valued by admissions offices around the world.
“Parents tell us they want their children to have choices. A-Levels are exactly that — a structured route that doesn't close any doors. Our job is to help each student build the pathway that fits them.” — Nancy Oliveira, Cambridge Curriculum Director at EITV
That support is deliberately personal. Small class sizes allow teachers to know each student well, and academic and careers guidance is tailored to individual goals, helping families explore and compare universities globally. For students aiming beyond Portugal, it turns a daunting process into a clear, guided one.

There is also a practical advantage worth noting. Until now, families in the region seeking an A-Level education had to look to Lisbon or further afield. EITV brings that option home — onto a 45,000 m² campus set in natural surroundings, within an international community of more than twenty nationalities, and far closer than the capital.
For parents weighing the standard national path against an international one, the real question is about horizons. The A-Levels at EITV are designed to widen them.
The A-Levels programme launches in September 2026, with enrolment now open. To discuss pathways or arrange a campus visit, contact EITV at eitv.pt or email admissions@eitv.pt.
