Salta-Pocinhas is being built in Conceição de Faro and is expected to welcome its first children in 2027.

The nursery is being developed by AIPAR – Associação de Proteção à Rapariga e à Família and will be the first in the Algarve to offer this type of extended schedule.

The idea is to help families whose working hours do not fit with the usual opening times of childcare facilities, particularly people working in sectors where shifts are common.

Jornal do Algarve reports that the nursery is being created particularly with workers at Faro Airport, the Algarve's hospitals and the hotel sector in mind.

The new facility will care for children up to the age of three and will include a nursery area for babies. It will also operate under the Creche Feliz programme, meaning eligible families will be able to access free childcare places.

The project has an overall investment of €1.88 million. Faro Council contributed €800,000 and provided the land, while AIPAR has so far raised another €500,000 through private donations.

However, the association still needs to raise around €580,000 to complete the project.

Sul Informação reports that construction is already at an advanced stage, with the building designed around a central courtyard and outdoor areas where children can have contact with nature.

The project is particularly significant for Conceição de Faro, which currently does not have a nursery.

AIPAR is continuing to seek support from companies and individuals to complete the investment, with the aim of having Salta-Pocinhas ready to receive families in 2027.
