King Harald V of Norway, who was hospitalised due to complications related to a blood disease, died at the age of 89, the Norwegian Royal Palace announced.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of His Majesty King Harald. King Harald passed away peacefully at the National Hospital [Rikshospitalet] on Friday, August 28, at 06:35" (05:35 in Lisbon), the palace said in a statement.
The longest-reigning monarch in Europe, Harald V, suffered from hemolytic anaemia, a blood disease that causes the abnormally rapid destruction of red blood cells, and had been hospitalised for about a week at the National Hospital in Oslo.
