The Institute also placed more than 40 municipalities in the districts of Leiria, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Portalegre, Beja and Faro at very high risk of fire.

More than 60 municipalities in the districts of Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Évora, Setúbal, Beja, Évora and Faro are also at high risk of fire today.

The IPMA states that the risk of rural fire will remain very high in some regions at least until 14 September.

The IPMA determines rural fire risk in five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum. The calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation in the previous 24 hours.
