The proposed expansion of wind and hydropower could generate 14,000 megawatts, enough to power homes across Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. The plans could also support 23,000 jobs and contribute CAN$31 billion to the economy through the early 2040s.

The agreement includes upgrading the Churchill Falls generating station and developing a new hydroelectric project at Gull Island in Labrador. Additional electricity could be transmitted to Quebec and sold into the northeastern United States. Around 80 percent of Canada’s electricity already comes from non-emitting sources, while expanded clean energy supply could improve energy security, affordability and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
