The package includes two bills and one draft resolution aimed at dealing with the rising cost of living and the inflationary pressures caused by the international geopolitical situation and energy costs.

The initial plan calls for the temporary imposition of zero VAT on a range of essential foodstuffs, such as bread, cereals, dairy products, meat, fish, vegetables, fruit and olive oil, while at the same time allowing supply chain operators to deduct tax.

With regard to energy, the parliamentary group suggests temporarily reducing the VAT on road fuels to the midrate of 13 per cent for a renewable period of 12 months, and is addressing the effect of combining VAT with the tax on petroleum products on consumers' final bills.

The third proposal, which is given in the form of a draft resolution, calls on the Government to abolish the tolls on the 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges in order to reduce the daily commuting costs for people living on the South Bank.

It proposes that talks should be started with the concessionary company Lusoponte before the contract expires in 2030, and it requests that a public financing scheme be established to guarantee the maintenance and the management of the crossings over the Tagus River.
