Lisbon Metro prepares to increase train service and security to accommodate 75,000 participants of the Web Summit in Lisbon from 9 to 12 November, Executive Digest reports.
Lisbon Metro will implement a special mobility and security operation at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL) and the MEO Arena. The initiative includes increased service on the Red and Green lines, enhanced surveillance at stations, along with additional information to passengers.
One of the planned measures involves the possibility of adding extra trains to the Red Line, which is one of the main connections to the event venue, although this reinforcement depends on fleet availability and should allow for increased transport capacity during peak periods.
Oriente station, served by the Red Line, provides access to the Web Summit venues at Parque das Nações. Passengers travelling on the Green Line can transfer to the Red Line at Alameda station, while those arriving at Lisbon Airport can reach Oriente directly via the Red Line.
The plan also includes specific information for participants and the installation of diagrams showing connections between different modes of transport at eight stations on the network.
Web Summit Transport Passes
Similar to previous years, Lisbon Metro, Carris (Lisbon’s public transport company), and CP (Portuguese Railways) will offer Web Summit Transport Passes (WSTP), tickets that allow unlimited travel during their validity period on the networks covered by the three operators, Executive Digest reports.
The offer also includes rail connections on the Sintra, Cascais, Azambuja, and Sado lines. Two options will be available: a three-day pass for €23 and a five-day pass for €31.50, and both options will be loaded onto occasional Navegante cards. According to Lisbon Metro, the passes are valid for 72 or 120 consecutive hours from the first validation, depending on the option selected. Tourist routes and airport shuttle services are excluded.
Ticket sales will be exclusively at a physical point of sale at Lisbon Airport, next to the Web Summit accreditation area. The sales point will be open on 7 November, from 9:30 am to 10:00 pm; on 8 and 9 November, from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm; and on 10 November, from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
This year, online sales, voucher issuance, and one-day passes will not be available. Passengers travelling exclusively on the Lisbon Metro can continue to pay contactlessly using a bank card or compatible device, eliminating the need to purchase a ticket in advance.
Lisbon Metro is coordinating the initiative, with Carris responsible for in-person pass sales and CP promoting the service to event participants. The initiative aims to make travel easier during the event, encourage public transport use, and support more sustainable, interconnected transport options.
