The Portuguese weekend will take place between 18 and 20 June, between the Monaco Grand Prix on 6 June and the British Grand Prix on 4 July, without a sprint race in the program.

The calendar announced by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the championship promoter, Formula 1, approved by the World Motor Sport Council, includes 24 Grand Prix and 10 sprint races, four more than in 2026, with the season starting in Bahrain on 14 March and ending in Abu Dhabi on 12 December.

Formula 1 had already announced Portugal's return to the World Championship in 2027 and 2028, as part of an agreement with the Portuguese Government, Turismo de Portugal and the promoting entity Parkalgar.

Portimão opens its doors to Formula 1

Portimão will thus once again host the competition six years after Formula 1 last visited the Algarve circuit, which hosted races in 2020 and 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, both won by Briton Lewis Hamilton.

Turkey also returns to the championship, with the Istanbul race scheduled for 3 October, between the races in Azerbaijan and Singapore. However, the GP is subject to FIA homologation of the circuit.

Portugal and Turkey enter a calendar that no longer includes the races in the Netherlands, in Zandvoort, and Barcelona-Catalunya, while maintaining the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, on 12 September.

Expansion of Sprint Races

One of the main new features is expanding the number of sprint races from six to 10. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi will host this format for the first time, joining Canada, Great Britain, Italy, São Paulo (Brazil), and Qatar.

The season begins with two consecutive races in the Middle East, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, then moves on to Australia, Japan, and China, before trips to Miami and Canada.

European phase

The European phase begins in Monaco and includes Portugal, Great Britain, Austria, Belgium, and Hungary. The summer break will take place between the Hungarian race on 1 August and the Italian race on 5 September.

The final part of the championship goes through Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo, and Las Vegas, before the last two races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi in December.

Pre-season testing will take place in Bahrain from 24 to 27 February.
