Christian Brueckner is currently the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann on 3 May 2007, in Praia da Luz, Algarve. In an interview with the Mail on Sunday, Brueckner reveals that he was 150 metres from the apartment where Maddie and her siblings were sleeping, selling drugs.

The suspect also adds that he had been in Spain, where he brought cannabis to Portugal. Brueckner also reveals that while selling the drugs, he was approached by the police three times, as they were already searching for the child.

The suspect also reportedly said that he kept the drugs in his van, telling the Mail on Sunday that it was lucky the police on the scene didn't find his van. He said that as soon as he noticed the police presence, he left Praia da Luz as soon as he could.

Reason for the silence

According to him, the suspect did not publicly reveal this version of his whereabouts because he believed the police would hold him responsible for Madeleine McCann's disappearance. Thus, the German man stated that he had nothing to do with the child's disappearance and that he was only there to sell drugs.

The suspect also reportedly said that he wished Maddie McCann would reappear alive, as he believed that would dispel all suspicions raised against him. Brueckner also added to the Mail on Sunday that the suspicions against him were fabricated.

Even so, Brueckner believes that if Maddie is still missing, he will remain the prime suspect.

Christian Brueckner is suspected of the kidnapping and alleged murder of Madeleine McCann, who disappeared on 3 May 2007, in Praia da Luz.

The 4-year-old child was at the Ocean Club, sleeping with her siblings, while her parents dined at a nearby restaurant with their group of friends, when, during a visit to the room, the mother, Kate McCann, reportedly reported the disappearance of her eldest daughter.

The disappearance of Madeleine McCann became one of the most publicised cases in Portugal, and her parents were also considered suspects in the alleged accidental death of their daughter.
