Electric rigs are on track to represent nearly a third of trucks sold this year, compared with 8 percent two years ago. The transition is helping reduce diesel consumption while cutting freight costs and emissions and strengthening resilience against global oil supply shocks.

Diesel consumption is expected to fall more than 10 percent this year as electric trucking expands. Charging an electric truck can cost less than a third of filling a diesel equivalent.

Authorities are supporting further growth through charging infrastructure and clean-energy freight corridors, targeting new-energy vehicles to comprise at least 40 percent of heavy-truck sales by 2030.
