Members get their money’s worth

“Where else can you get such a broad sheet of events and the original ‘Pop-Up Shop’? We have it all!”

Indeed, Jenny Clarke, President of the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve (APAA), had a short break before piling new stock into her van, ready to whizz off to the next event.

“In between the cats and dogs’ vet run!” She smiles. “It has been a busy start to the season. We’ve already had two Pop-Ups and an Open Day with ARA.” Anita, Ambassador for ARA’s Legacy, was pleased with the turn-out at the event. “It was an enormous success, and we are hoping for another open day soon!”

The new season ahead continues to be a busy one. The second Sunday of every month marks the return of the Ferragudo Car Boot Fair. “It is a fun opportunity but sometimes weather or a road closure at the last minute means a pull-out.” Undeterred, the intrepid team will be hoisting their flag at the first event.

Looking ahead, there will be another Fair at the ‘Convento Bio’ in Lagoa in November. Also, a rather quaint but innovative idea. “We’re having a pop-up outside our Alvor Charity shop.” Yes? “We will have a splendid re-opening of the ‘new-look’ boutique. Also, friends, Gill Goode and her beautiful cards and prints. With Fiona and her collection of hand-made jewellery and make-up.”

Wow! Another event simply means more money for their SNiP campaign. The Spaying & Neutering Programme is not only for feral cat colonies but the communities who suffer from overzealous dogs and cats. “We also help other smaller associations, charities and shelters with their animal rescue programme.”

All in a day’s work for APAA and their team. “We are always looking for new helping hands, fresh ideas. Why not come along and have a chat, meet some new people and grab a refreshing drink or even lunch!” Good idea!
