Dating apps have become one of the most common ways to meet someone new. However, not everyone enjoys spending hours scrolling through profiles, exchanging messages and waiting to see whether an online connection will turn into something more.

For those who prefer meeting people in person, there is an interesting event coming to Lisbon next month.

On Wednesday, 11 November, a party exclusively for singles over the age of 30 will take place at Suspenso, in Lisbon's historic Alfama neighbourhood. The event is organised by Portuguese dating platform Felizes.pt, which has been operating since 2015, and aims to bring people together in a relaxed and entertaining environment.

As reported by NiT, the party is being organised to celebrate Singles' Day, which takes place every year on 11 November.

The event is open to anyone over 30 who is single, divorced or widowed, and participants are welcome to attend alone or bring friends.

There will be space for 300 people, with organisers planning an equal number of men and women.

A different way to meet people

Unlike traditional dating events, where participants might feel pressured to make a connection within a few minutes, this party will include several activities designed to make conversations happen more naturally.

One of the most interesting features is a coloured wristband system.

When registering for the event, participants will be asked to answer five short questions about their personality. Based on their answers, they will receive a wristband in one of four colours.

Blue is for those who enjoy deeper conversations, while yellow represents people who describe themselves as fun, relaxed and easy-going.

Green is intended for practical, down-to-earth personalities, and red is for those who consider themselves passionate and intense.

The wristbands will then be used to organise groups and different challenges throughout the evening, helping people find common interests and start conversations.

The idea is to make meeting strangers a little easier, especially for those who might feel uncomfortable approaching someone they have never met before.

Comedy, music and relationship advice

The evening will also feature two familiar faces from Portuguese television.

Eduardo Torgal, a personal development coach and one of the experts from SIC's popular relationship programme Casados à Primeira Vista, will open the event with a stand-up comedy performance.

His performance will focus on relationships and the challenges of dating after turning 30, bringing a humorous perspective to situations that many participants may recognise.

He will be joined by Sara Malcato, a clinical psychologist and sexologist who also appears as an expert on the same television programme.

During the evening, Malcato will address anonymous questions submitted by participants, while both experts will lead activities and games to encourage interaction.

There will also be a DJ providing music throughout the night, a bar where guests can enjoy drinks and a photo area.

Although the event is aimed at people looking to meet potential romantic partners, it also offers an opportunity to socialise, make new friends and enjoy an evening out in Lisbon.

How to participate

The doors will open at 8.30pm, allowing guests to check in and collect their wristbands before the programme begins at 9pm.

The party will continue until midnight.

Tickets cost €30 per person, including one complimentary drink. Registration is available online, and participants must complete the short personality questionnaire before attending.

With only 300 places available, anyone interested in joining is encouraged to register in advance.

For those who have grown tired of dating apps, the event offers an alternative to meeting people through a screen. And while nobody can guarantee that a night out will lead to romance, it could be an enjoyable way to meet someone new.
