Lopes Ferreira will leave the position at the 2027 General Assembly, marking the end of his three-term cycle of 11 years as the head of the Super Bock Group.

The shareholders have expressed their appreciation for the work Lopes Ferreira carried out during this period. In a statement, the shareholders highlight that Lopes Ferreira contributed to strengthening the Super Bock Group’s position in the sector and consolidating its brands, both in Portugal and in international markets, Executive Digest reports.

International presence

Super Bock Group is majority Portuguese-owned, with 56% of its capital held by Grupo VIACER and the remaining 44% by the Carlsberg Group.

The company operates across several beverage categories, including beer, mineral water, cider, soft drinks, wine and sangria, reflecting its diversified portfolio within the Portuguese beverage industry, alongside activities in malt production and tourism.

According to its official website, the group has approximately 30 brands and operates in more than 50 countries, employing around 1,393 people. Its portfolio includes Super Bock, Coruja, Seleção 1927, Carlsberg, Somersby, Pedras and Vitalis.

New leadership

The group said that Cláudio Mateus, who currently serves as CFO, has been appointed CEO due to his knowledge of the company, the sector, and future challenges, considering that these conditions will ensure a smooth transition and continuity with the organisation’s defined strategy.

Mateus is already a member of the group’s executive committee and board of directors, alongside current CEO Rui Lopes Ferreira.

The executive committee also includes Carlos Teixeira, responsible for supply chain operations, Luís Moreira, responsible for commercial activities, and Nuno Bernardo, responsible for marketing.

The board of directors is chaired by Manuel Violas, while José Luís Arnaut serves as chairman of the General Meeting.

Corporate strategy

The leadership transition comes as Super Bock Group continues implementing its corporate sustainability strategy.

The strategy focuses on four main areas: supporting people and communities, promoting responsible consumption, reducing water consumption, and lowering carbon emissions across the company’s operations and production processes.

The company’s environmental initiatives include investments in renewable energy, recycling programmes and reusable beverage packaging, alongside projects supporting agricultural production and partnerships with universities.

In May 2025, the group held its third annual Sustainability Week, recording more than 750 participants in activities addressing environmental protection, responsible consumption and community engagement.

The programme included discussions about recycling, carbon emissions and social projects.
