According to the PSP, the arrest occurred during a road patrol, and it was found that the driver was traveling on a public road at a speed well above the legal limit.
After analysing the scooter, the PSP found that it exceeded the maximum permitted power limit of 0.25 kW, as defined in paragraph 2 of article 112 of the Traffic Code, as it was equipped with two attached batteries, totalling 8,000 W of power, with a voltage of 72 volts and a capacity of 50 Ah.
Given the technical characteristics identified, the vehicle in question should be classified as a moped, a class of vehicle for which the man did not have a driver's license.

There needs to be stricter enforcement about electric scooters. Where I live they quite frequently travel at speed in the wrong direction on a 1-way road. They are crazy on busy roundabouts and are an accident waiting to happen.
