The Embassy of Portugal in Washington D.C. once again opened its doors to thousands of visitors during the highly successful EU Open House 2026, with this year’s event proving to be one of the strongest yet for The Portugal News and its partners.
This is the third year that The Portugal News publishes the special EU Open House newspaper which has continued to grow year-on-year, with 2026 also marking the first time The Portugal News team attended the event in person as official media partners. The event offered a unique opportunity to connect directly with an international audience actively interested in Portugal for tourism, relocation, investment and lifestyle opportunities.

Thousands welcomed to the Embassy of Portugal
Held at the Embassy of Portugal in Washington D.C., the event welcomed approximately 2,700 visitors throughout the day, creating a vibrant showcase of Portuguese culture, hospitality and business opportunities.
Guests were also welcomed by the Ambassador of Portugal to the United States, His Excellency Franciso Duarte Lopes alongside Chefe Admissão Adjunto Pedro Carneiro and members of the Embassy team, while Portuguese heritage, art and culture were celebrated throughout the Embassy, including paintings exhibited by Michael de Brito.

As official media partners, The Portugal News distributed 1,560 copies of its specially produced Embassy Edition newspaper, giving attendees direct access to stories, features and partner content promoting Portugal to an affluent and highly engaged audience.

The Portugal News would also like to thank valued partners Portugal Pathways and The Magnolia Hotel (Quinta do Lago) for generously sponsoring prizes for the competition, helping to further engage attendees and create additional visibility for participating brands.
Congratulations were extended to Colleen Giltner, winner of the Portugal Pathways prize, which included a three-night stay for two at the 4-star Lux Park Lisboa Hotel with breakfast included, as well as a dinner for two at the renowned JNcQUOI Restaurant.
Congratulations were also extended to Karen Morrissey, winner of the Quinta do Lago prize, which included a two-night stay for two at the 4-star The Magnolia Hotel with breakfast included, two rounds of golf and access to The Campus.

Looking ahead to 2027
Following the success of the 2026 edition, planning is already underway for next year’s Embassy Edition and EU Open House participation.
