Researchers followed 1,865 people aged 60 and over for 15 years, finding those with high dementia-related blood protein levels had up to a 30 percent lower risk. The findings connect identifying dementia risk through blood biomarkers with reducing it through lifestyle factors.

However, the study established an association rather than proving that diet prevents dementia. The researchers said healthy eating may be particularly relevant for people already showing biological signs of increased dementia risk.
