“We had to do another clear-out of the shop. Anita (Pop-Up fame) and the girls at the shop are clearing, stacking, sorting…” It is no surprise that their Alvor charity shop is busy, in the heart of tourist country. Residents also use the shop regularly to bring and buy. “Handy if you need a new summer wardrobe!” Talking of which, the abandoned lass at Odelouca is now with Liz and Pete, being ‘humanised’ and checked out by the vet. “She has heartworm, but is being treated, and otherwise she looks great!” Her sterilisation due next month. Amigo is doing well, a long-term project. Now with Cadela Carlota, where Ani is working with him, and it has been rewarding; he is showing less fear and more understanding of his new dog-friendly world. “We cannot thank our volunteers enough. Also, Cadela Carlota for helping APAA out when needed.”
Animal Rescue Algarve (ARA) and APAA are working together on ARA’s ‘Legacy’ project. ARA’s CiC Sid Richardson and Manager João Ferreira are re-working their website and getting ready for a new ‘Legacy’ launch. “We’ve been working hard within the community to introduce ‘Legacy’ Pet Plan, which deals with the problem of what happens when we die and leave pet(s) behind.”

Jenny and Anita signed up right at the beginning, as it was their dream come true. A problem they had finally resolved. “But, where do you start?” Indeed. ARA will talk you right through the process, help with forms and give any suggestions you may need. At the end, it is your problem and your decision. Making out a will to include your pet(s) will be required, but ARA are able to assist with any new wills and any costs that may be required. “Everyone has a different story, and a different solution.” ARA can help reduce the stress and make your decision less painful.
‘Legacy Open Day 10th September at ARA’. Why not go along and discuss your ideas and listen to what ARA can do to help. Before you go, check out their website. The wonderful shelter, the work ARA do for the animal world. Their proposals and future for you and your pets.
