We started running in 2024, never imagining that it would become such a huge part of our lives. In 2025, we decided we wanted to combine our love of running with something meaningful. Portugal is the place we call home, and we wanted to use our love of running to give something back to the community and the people who do so much to protect it.

That was when Running for Our Heroes began.

Our first challenge was a charity run supporting the Albufeira Bombeiros. We set ourselves a target of €5,000, and thanks to the incredible support of our family, friends, local community and everyone who donated and shared our journey, we reached our goal and were able to donate €5,000.

Since then, we have continued fundraising and raising awareness for our local Bombeiros. Last year, we organised a Christmas Raffle which raised €1,000, followed by a Spring Raffle earlier this year which raised a further €1,500. Together, these fundraising efforts have brought the total raised through Running for Our Heroes to €7,500. The money raised helps support our local Bombeiros with essential supplies and whatever they may need to continue the incredible work they do.

We are incredibly proud of how far Running for Our Heroes has come in such a short time. We are also currently in the process of becoming a registered charity, as our hope is to continue supporting the Bombeiros and our local community through future fundraising projects and events.

This year, we are taking on our biggest challenge yet – a 30km charity run from Salir to Albufeira. Training for such a distance has been challenging, with plenty of tired legs, early mornings and moments where we have questioned whether we can do it. But whenever it gets difficult, we remind ourselves exactly who we are running for.

The Bombeiros don't get to choose when they are needed. They run towards emergencies when others are running away. They give their time, put themselves in danger and work tirelessly to keep people, animals and our communities safe.

We may only be two sisters with a passion for running, but we believe that every kilometre can make a difference.

We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey. Every donation, share, message and word of encouragement has helped us turn our runs into something that can make a real difference.

Running for Our Heroes is about more than running. It's about giving back to the people who are always there for us. ❤️
