It is surrounded by high golden sandstone cliffs and can be reached by a stairway carved into the rock or by the famous beach lift, which takes visitors down to the beach from the clifftop promenade. Another interesting feature is the Túnel do Peneco, a 20-metre passage cut directly through the cliffs, connecting Albufeira's Old Town with the beach.


One of the beach's best-known landmarks is the large rock that gave Praia do Peneco its name. Following winter storms, cracks were discovered in the rock, and authorities are currently assessing its stability. Although demolition has been suggested as one possible solution, no final decision has been made.

We took a pedal boat to spend some time out at sea and enjoy the views of the coastline from a different perspective. It was a great way to see the cliffs from the water. There is also Roca Beach Bar, which is a great place to stop for an ice cream or a drink during a beach day. In the evening, you can come back for dinner, sunset views and live music while overlooking the beach.

One of the things I like most about Peneco Beach is its location. As soon as you leave the sand, you're already in Albufeira's Old Town, surrounded by cafés, restaurants and small shops. It's a great beach if you want to combine a day by the sea with a walk around one of the Algarve's most popular towns.
