What was once a quiet fishing village is now one of the Algarve’s most popular holiday destinations. Carvoeiro can become very busy during the summer, but it has managed to retain much of its charm, with whitewashed houses and fishing boats still resting on the sand.

Although Carvoeiro has several beaches nearby, Praia do Carvoeiro is its main beach. Located directly in the centre of the village, beside the main square, it could hardly be more convenient.

Its central location also makes it a good choice for families and anyone planning to spend the whole day by the sea. Cafés, restaurants and shops are only a few steps away, so there is no need to pack everything for the day.

During the bathing season, the beach has lifeguard supervision and paid sunbeds. There are parking spaces nearby, although finding one can be difficult during the busiest summer months.

From Carvoeiro Beach, you can take a boat trip directly from the sand. Small boats travel along the coast, entering some of the caves between Carvoeiro and Praia da Marinha. Many trips include the famous Benagil Cave, as well as views of secluded beaches and rock formations that cannot easily be seen from land.

This beach, surrounded by golden cliffs, offers beautiful views in every direction. Facing the sea, walk to the right towards Praia do Paraíso for views across Carvoeiro and its surrounding cliffs. On the left, the road that leads towards the Church of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação offers another beautiful perspective over the bay.

Carvoeiro Beach also becomes part of the village’s biggest celebration each June. Black & White Night takes over the beach, streets and main square, attracting thousands of people for an evening of live music.
