After defeats against the host Azerbaijan (3-1), Belgium (3-0) and the Netherlands (3-0), the Portuguese team beat Spain today, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20.

In its second-ever participation, after its debut in 2019 with five defeats, Portugal achieved its first victory and is in fourth place in Group C, with three points, fighting for a place in the round of 16, for which the top four from each group qualify.

The Portuguese team, coached by Hugo Silva, is behind the already qualified Netherlands, Belgium and Azerbaijan, all with eight points, while Romania is fifth, with two, all with one game less, and Spain is sixth, with one.

Portugal plays its last group game on 27 August against Romania, a decisive match in which it depends only on itself to advance in the competition.
