The Assembly of the Republic authorised the details, and the Presidency of the Republic made them public.

The audience with the leader of the Catholic Church is based on a formal invitation sent by the Head of State in May last year to the Pontiff to visit Portugal in 2027, since that year coincides with three important diplomatic and religious events: the 500th anniversary of the formal creation of the Apostolic Nunciature in the country, the 110th anniversary of the Apparitions of Fátima, and the tenth anniversary of the canonisation of the shepherd children Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

The Head of State's international schedule will continue the week beginning on 29 and 30 September with a journey to Strasbourg for the 50th-anniversary commemorations of Portugal's entry into the Council of Europe—a visit which has already been arranged by the organisation's Parliamentary Assembly.

During the autumn session of the European parliamentary meetings, António José Seguro will speak to the Assembly to highlight the country's historic incorporation into the democratic and human rights area in 1976.
