Increase in daily arrivals

According to the most recent data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), released on 14 April, this performance was accompanied by a historical high in the average daily arrivals, which reached 81,200 passengers in February, surpassing the records already established in the first month of the year and in the same period of 2025.

The analysis by infrastructure reveals that Lisbon Airport continues to be the main driver of the sector, accounting for 55.6% of total traffic with 4.9 million passengers, a 3.4% increase. However, the largest percentage growth was recorded at Porto Airport, which jumped 7.7% to 2.1 million passengers.

In Funchal, the increase was 5.1%, allowing the Madeira airport to surpass Faro in traffic volume, since the Algarve infrastructure registered a contraction of 1.9% in the year-on-year comparison.

International markets

Regarding international markets, Spain emerged as the main country of origin for flights, with a 5.3% increase in disembarking passengers, while the United Kingdom maintained its leadership as the preferred destination, with a more modest 1.2% growth.

In contrast, the French market registered a sharp drop, with a decrease of over 11% in both arrivals and departures, although it still maintains prominent positions in the ranking of countries of origin and destination.

Cargo and mail movement

While passenger transport continues on a record-breaking path, cargo and mail movement decreased by 0.5% in the first two months, totalling just over 37,000 tons.

Lisbon, which accounts for 77.3% of this market, saw a 0.3% decrease in cargo volume, a downward trend that was even more pronounced across the remaining national airports, where the decrease reached 1.2%.
