In a statement, the Lisbon Metro detailed that two new direct access elevators between the exterior and the platform have become operational at the Martim Moniz station and three new elevators at the Intendente station, "particularly benefiting people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, elderly people, families with strollers, and customers with luggage."

The Lisbon Metro has an ongoing program to adapt and modernise its older stations, developed within the scope of the National Accessibility Promotion Plan, and, since 2018, has installed or replaced 42 elevators in 15 stations and 35 escalators and moving walkways, the company said in the statement.

For this year, in addition to those already inaugurated, an intervention is also planned for the Praça de Espanha station, "whose opening is scheduled for the end of August."

In May, a new pilot model for the maintenance of the escalators at the Baixa-Chiado and Airport stations came into effect, with a contract valid until 2030 and a total value of approximately six million euros, which provides for a dedicated technical team, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, "with the aim of reducing downtime and reinforcing the reliability of the equipment."

According to the company, since the end of January, the elevator unavailability rate has been reduced from approximately 33% to approximately 17%, while for escalators there has been a decrease from approximately 15% to 8%.
