This practice, that is called sound healing today, is a rising field in modern wellness environments and conscious practices for personal well-being.
Why healing?
The benefits of these healing sounds extend from relief of physical tension and stress to mental calm, inner clarity and calm, and even to emotional processing. People have unique experiences, but many report feeling recharged and rested in a way they usually can't achieve during their day, often accompanied with a sense of peace, lightness and connectedness to themselves and to life. Dr Mitchell L. Gaynor describes in his book 'The Healing Power of Sound' the incredible effects complementary sound-based therapy has on the recovery and healing of his patients confronted with life-threatening illnesses.
Not a musical performance

Even though the sounds are beautiful to listen to and it can be impressive to watch the practitioner, this is not a musical performance. It is a facilitated well-being with an intentionally designed and held space for people to receive the profound benefits of sound.
Deeper aliveness through sound
Before I became a sound healing practitioner, I used crystal singing bowls as a way to find my own centre in the morning, or to unwind in the evening, using vocal toning along with it. Now, as I see people's experiences in my soundbaths, its meaning draws an even wider picture for me. It shows that pure sound touches something deep within us, something essential to our existence. And it makes sense that sound can touch us in such a profound way, bringing a sense of inner wholeness and deeper aliveness.
Soundbath on water
There are numerous types of soundbaths where the practitioner uses Tibetan bowls, gong, crystal singing bowls, chimes, seed instruments, drums or others, creating different soundscapes and journeys. Besides lying on the ground or swinging in a hammock, there is a floating soundbath where people rest on water beds drifting on the surface of the water while the sound vibrates all around them. The experience is often described as floating in sound, physically feeling the sound vibrations, bringing a sense of weightlessness and grounding at the same time.
Where to experience this?
Under the name SONAROSE, Sina Rissmann offers grounded as well as floating soundbaths. The next monthly floating soundbath 'Crystal Waters' is happening in the pool oasis of BO House in Mexilhoeira da Carregação on 15 August at 7 p.m. (floating and poolside places available).
