The decree that defines the terms and conditions for community pharmacies' participation in the seasonal vaccination campaign for autumn-winter 2026-2027 includes this remuneration. This funding will be covered by the budget of the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS), which will transfer it to local health units, responsible for paying the pharmacies.

The Ministry of Health decided to maintain the decentralised vaccination model next season, anticipating that pharmacy participation will have a budgetary impact of up to €7.6 million.

"The experience resulting from the implementation of this model in the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasonal campaigns showed relevant benefits for the protection of public health and for the response capacity of the health system," the ordinance published emphasises.

The last seasonal campaign began on 23 September 2025 and ran until 30 April of this year, through approximately 3,500 vaccination points, with the participation of 2,585 community pharmacies and approximately 1,000 National Health Service basic health units.

The pharmacies administered more than 1.1 million flu vaccines and approximately 631,000 COVID-19 vaccines.
