In total, through August, the number of viewers rose 11% to 8.5 million, up from 7.7 million in the first eight months of 2025.
In terms of revenue, cinemas saw a 110.8% increase in August to €13.2 million, compared to €6.3 million in August last year.
In total for 2026, Portuguese cinemas' revenue rose 21.8% to €59.4 million, up from €48.8 million through August last year.
Impactful premieres
August's numbers were boosted by the premiere, at the end of July, of "Spider-Man: One More Day," by Destin Daniel Cretton, which became the most-watched film of the year in Brazil in one month, following the global trend.
The new cinematic chapter of "Spider-Man" totalled almost 669,000 viewers and five million euros in revenue in August.
The second most-watched film in August – and of the year – is "The Odyssey," by Christopher Nolan, which last month registered 363,000 viewers and €3.3 million in revenue.
The year's most-watched national film, "Playback" by Sérgio Graciano, also premiered in August and drew nearly 40,000 viewers.
