Although nowadays Óbidos is maybe more known for its winter events and famous Christmas village, this time we visited in summer and it was full of people! The streets were busy, the little shops were full of amazing handmade and local products, and the whole town had a really lively atmosphere.

The historic centre is not very big and is easy to explore on foot. Here, you can admire all the small details, small cafés, traditional white houses and authentic decor in each of the cute little shops.

Óbidos is also known as the Town of Queens. This goes back to King Dinis, who gave the town to his wife, Queen Isabel. For centuries after that, Óbidos was traditionally linked to the queens of Portugal.

And then there is ginjinha. You really can't visit Óbidos without noticing it, as you will see it being sold everywhere. This traditional sour cherry liqueur is one of the specialities of the town, and you can even have it served in a little chocolate cup.
