Mercadona has announced that its Portimão store, located at the Nova Vila Retail Park, will open on 15 October. The supermarket chain also states that its arrival in the Algarve reinforces “Mercadona’s commitment to the Portuguese market.”

The Spanish supermarket chain further promises to offer its customers – whom it refers to as ‘chefs’ – “a quality service based on proximity, convenience and meeting consumers’ needs.”

The supermarket in Portimão, the brand says, reflects “the continuation of the company’s nationwide expansion plan and Mercadona’s commitment to bringing its efficient store model, with a high-quality product range and excellent service.”

A Mercadona store in the Algarve had long been eagerly awaited by residents of the region, who would usually travel to Ayamonte to buy Mercadona products.

From 15 October, trips to Spain may no longer be necessary, particularly for those in Barlavento Algarvio who prefer Mercadona products.
