“This is going beyond all limits. If they try to drag Livre into this kind of mess, then we will have to go to court if necessary. Livre is not susceptible to dishonesty, Livre is not playing the game of seeking attention,” warned Rui Tavares, in a conversation at the party's back-to-school event, "Os Setembristas," which took place in Porto.

On the sidelines of the initiative, in statements to Lusa, Rui Tavares stated that André Ventura appears to be “very nervous because more and more people realise that the story about the office is very poorly told and has many appearances of being a kind of self-coup.”

“I don’t know if it is or isn’t true, but the interview he gave, in which at one point he throws at the PSD or Livre the possibility that perhaps they and we were the ones who entered the office, deserves a very firm response,” he argued.

Accusing the president of Chega of being a “compulsive fabricator who invents any story to grab attention,” the former spokesperson considered that Ventura “does not have the right to drag Livre” or even the PSD “into this mess.”

“From our side, we made it very clear: this is a message for him to stop and desist from doing it. Because otherwise, we will obviously go to court and may become assistants in the process that will take place because of the office story,” he added.

This week, in an interview with the NOW channel, the president of Chega insinuated that PSD or Livre could have responsibilities in the alleged break-in at André Ventura’s office in parliament in July.

“MP Hugo Soares [parliamentary leader of the PSD], I don’t know, maybe it was one of his people who went there, because he’s always saying that Chega should be talking about this. I’m starting to think that it was the PSD or Livre who went to the office, because they’re always saying, ‘they should be talking about this, they should be talking about this, ’,” said André Ventura.
