The telecommunications and digital services provider, MEO, announced that it was the target of a "mass attack" on Monday.

The attack caused disruptions to its services, CNN Portugal reports, but the company said it quickly brought the situation under control and that the attack did not involve access to customer data.

No customer data breach

In a statement sent to Lusa, MEO stated that it was the target of "a mass attack that caused congestion and degradation of the international network".

"All mitigation and recovery measures were immediately activated, allowing the situation to be quickly controlled and service stability restored," MEO stated.

The operator also guaranteed that the attack "did not result in any intrusion or access to data from MEO and its customers."

Operator outages

The Downdetector portal, a platform that provides real-time information on various services, registered several reports of service outages for companies such as MEO, Vodafone, NOS, and Digi.

"MEO remains committed to the safety, resilience, robustness and quality of its infrastructure and services," the statement concluded.
