According to the council, the new tenants of the Clona Urbanization, near Mina do Sal, are mainly young people, members of the security forces and teachers working in the municipality, as well as families with intermediate incomes who can no longer afford current market rents.

The houses, comprising one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties, were fully financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

With these additional 36 houses, a total of 171 homes have been delivered since the beginning of this municipal administration.

The municipality is also working on nearly 1,000 housing solutions at various stages of construction, development and planning, “to mitigate and solve the housing problem.”

“I am very happy for everyone who got a house because this is the basis of any family’s life. We work in several areas, with various tools, to be able to reach everyone who needs it as quickly as possible,” said the mayor of Loulé, Telmo Pinto.

Housing allocations

These houses were delivered as part of the second lottery held for the allocation of affordable housing. According to Pinto, further lotteries are planned, with the municipality aiming to reduce the time between the draws and the delivery of keys.

In September, Barlavento reported that the municipality had held a public lottery on 24 September at the Loulé Festivities Hall, with online participation also available. The draw involved 36 homes under the municipality’s affordable rental programme.

The programme targeted middle-income households, members of the security forces, teachers, young people aged up to 35 and families who had lived in the municipality for more than four years.

“We want to respond to everyone, we are focused on providing answers throughout the territory, from the coast to the interior,” said Loulé Mayor Telmo Pinto, emphasising the importance of the right to housing.
