What was once a building intended to guide navigators, the Cabo da Roca Lighthouse now houses the Cabo da Roca Lighthouse Interpretive Centre, which officially opened to the public on 23 July.

The lighthouse is located at the westernmost point of Portugal and continental Europe, and the requalification project is the result of a €1.6 million investment. The project aims not only to maintain the operation of the lighthouse but also to allow visitors to the region to learn more about this infrastructure.

João Sousa Rego, chairman of the board of directors of Parques Sintra, revealed at the lighthouse's inauguration that the project aims to help visitors recognise the natural values ​​that surround them and to discover a wider territory.

Permanent Exhibition

The Interpretation Centre has a permanent exhibition dedicated to the evolution of lighthouses in Portugal, highlighting maritime signalling systems and the role that the Cabo da Roca lighthouse plays in the safety of maritime navigation in Portugal.

There is also a reserved area that will host temporary exhibitions, as well as a shop and snack bar, with a view of the sea.

The essential visit, on a self-guided basis, allows you to explore the entire Interpretation Centre, walk through the outdoor courtyard, and enjoy new support spaces. This option costs €5 and is available for purchase online.

It is possible to add a panoramic tour to the ticket, accompanied by a member of Parques de Sintra, allowing you to observe the cliffs of the region, the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra Mountains. The ticket is also available online and costs €10 for adults, €7.50 for seniors over 65 and €5 for young people between 6 and 17 years old.
