The meeting of the Standing Committee – a body that operates outside the House's effective operating period – lasted three minutes and served only to vote on the replacement of deputies and the deliberation on the convocation of the House plenary for 8 September.

On 2 September, Chega submitted a motion of censure to the Government in Parliament entitled "For the end of a Government without political authority, incapable of assuming responsibilities and guaranteeing confidence in the institutions," related to the controversies involving Minister Luís Neves.

On 3 September, the conference of leaders met extraordinarily and decided, by consensus, that the motion would be debated on Tuesday, the 8th, understanding that the discussion should take place "as quickly as possible."

To be approved – which would imply the resignation of the government – ​​the motion of censure would have to have the favourable vote of 116 deputies, a possibility already ruled out, since the PS member announced that he will vote against it or abstain.
