I grew up on the 60’s and 70’s so was a teenager in the latter. Sunday was perceived as a rest day, the other six days of the week being open game for work, commerce, doing chores and entertainment. Sunday was dead!

Everything was shut apart from churches (and pubs which had very restricted opening times.) From what I could see people mowed the lawn, washed the car, ate lunch, had a nap etc. It all seemed super dull for a teenager bursting with energy and anticipation of fun.

To save my sanity, I played the piano and wrote songs. This was one of them.

Nowadays, when absolutely everything is open and buzzing 24/7, it’s hard to think that it’s only in relatively recent years that changed. So now we have the very opposite problem; how to find moments of rest in a busy world when everything is running at full tilt.

Personally, I think we need quality rest time but that might just be because I’m getting older and bits are starting to fall off!
