After visiting every Lisbon café featured in the latest Europe's 100 Best Coffee Shops 2026 ranking, we're getting ready to share our experience with readers through a new series of articles and reels.
The annual ranking includes six Portuguese cafés. Five are in the Lisbon area – Orioli Coffee & Lab., The Folks, Senzi, Liberty: Food, Coffee & Wine in Parede, and MAS Specialty Coffee & Brunch – while 7g Roaster in Vila Nova de Gaia is the highest-ranked Portuguese entry, finishing 13th in Europe. The cafés were recognised for factors including coffee quality, service, atmosphere and innovation.
Rather than simply reading about them, we decided to visit each of the Lisbon cafés ourselves. Every venue has its own identity, and next week, The Portugal News will introduce each one in more detail.
We'll be publishing an article and a reel about each café, sharing our personal experience, highlighting their signature drinks and showing what makes each one worth a visit. Whether you're looking for your next flat white, a quiet place to work or one of Lisbon's best brunch cafés, we'll help you decide which one to visit first.
Portugal's speciality coffee culture has grown rapidly over the past decade, and this latest European ranking reflects just how far the scene has come. While traditional espresso remains part of everyday life across the country, independent coffee shops are introducing new brewing methods, carefully sourced beans and creative menus that continue to attract both locals and visitors.
Stay tuned as we take you inside each of these award-winning cafés, one stop at a time.
