The Avenida da Liberdade is currently in the midst of a comprehensive resurfacing project targeting its central traffic lanes. Long criticised by drivers and locals for its worn, uneven pavement, this grand street is receiving a fresh layer of asphalt designed to restore comfort and safety to one of the city's main axes.

To minimise chaos for daily commuters, the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa structured the intervention strategically. Heavy machinery and work crews take over the corridor primarily during nighttime hours—running from 21:00 to 05:00—with traffic dynamically diverted through the lateral lanes. This phased overhaul marks a vital continuation of broader municipal efforts to upgrade downtown infrastructure, following earlier conservation work on local flowerbeds and water features.
